HOSPITAL PROFILE
- 1968 - On 14th January, the first Lions Cancer Detection Centre Trust sponsored by Lions Club of Surat (Main) inaugurated by Shri Hitendra Desai, the erstwhile Chief Minister of Gujarat.
- 1972- On 21-03-72 the Trust was registered under the Bombay Public Charitable Trust Act of 1950. On 20th July, 1972 the first clinic managed by the Trust was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Mehta of Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay.
- 1980- The Government granted a plot admeasuring 2000 Sq.mts. first patient was treated with the radiotherapy on 4th June 1980 on Gammarex Machine.
- 1982- The Centre has also been recognized by the South Gujarat University as an affiliate Institution of Government Medical College, Surat for teaching of Radiotherapy. The Centre works in collaboration with New Civil Hospital, Surat for Joint Management of Cancer patients. The Government of Gujarat have also accepted our request for 100% recurring grant.
- 1983- Brachytherapy (Internal Radiotherapy) facility. For this, District Planning Committee sanctioned Rs.2,50,000/- for Brachytherapy Unit and Rs.1,25,000/- for additional construction of the Brachytherapy Unit imported from Japan and installed in 1983.
- 1984- Department of Nuclear Medicine established in 1984. Nuclear Medicine facility is very useful in proper staging and management of cancer.
- 1984- Shri Sai Baba Satsang Mandal, Surat offered to build a Pathikashram. Government sanctioned a plot of 500 Sq. Mts for Pathikashrarn, a building where a patients & their relative can stay overnight while undergoing treatment.
- 1984- Rs. 50,000/- reimbursed by the Central Government for Pathology Laboratory Equipment.
- 1987- Cobalt 60 Tele Therapy Unit - Theratron 780-C was purchased from ABCL, Canada. Rs.5.00 Lacs from the grant of State Government &Rs. 12 Lacs from Central Government.
- 1991- We procured flexible fibroptic Gastroduodenoscope and Bronchoscope out of donation from Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation, U.S.A.
- 1994- Life Insurance Corporation of India donated a well equipped Medical Van.
- 1996- New Cobalt Unit-PHOENIX was purchased from AECL, CANADA with Grant of Rs.50.00 Lacs from Ministry of Health, Government of India.
- 1996- Lions Clubs International Foundation granted us substantial grant of $ 75,000 for Sonography, Colonoscope, Boyles apparatus, Treatment planning system and ECG machine, which are being used by us even today.
- 1997- we received M.P. Grant fund from Hon'ble Minister Shri Kashiram Rana for purchase of fully computerized Laboratory Equipments for our Centre.
- 2003 - Padmabhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman of Atomic Energy, Donated Rs.24.00 Lacs from Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India for replacement of Cobalt source in Cobalt Machine and Rs. 34 lacs grant received in the same year.
- 2009- Government allotted additional 600 sq.meter land for Linear Accelerator Project, where a spacious building was built & we have installed following machines / equipments.
